Strings’ Soliloquies (2014) for 25-string koto and guitar
Strings’ Soliloquies (2014) for 25-string koto and guitar
In this piece, I created distorted pitches, calculated on computer, using the 16 overtones from the lowest pitch E for guitar and used these reconstructed results from 5 variations. To create complicated timbre, I use micro tones for both guitar and 25-string koto as well as percussive noises with extended techniques. Both instruments are tuned with micro tones. Both distorted timbre and transparent harmonics, which are characteristic of string instruments, express “Strings’ Soliloquies”. This piece was dedicated to Norio Sato and Maya Kimura and premiered and performed several times in Japan.
